The Belgian champion had to retire on Sunday during the World Cup cross in Namur. He threw in the towel on the third lap, at a time when he was already well behind the leaders. It now appears that Iserbyt is again suffering from Piriformis syndrome, a pinched nerve in the left leg. According to his team, the problem resurfaced after the X20 cyclocross in Herentals. He finished fifth last Saturday.
The 27-year-old Iserbyt has been struggling with the injury for about three years, which occasionally surfaces. “It is now especially important to do exercises with the physiotherapist and avoid strenuous exertion. Walking uphill in particular has an influence on nerve pain,” says Iserbyt, who went to the hospital for a check-up on Monday morning.
