FC is still in tenth place with five points. Jena, one place behind Cologne, also played one fewer game. Last in the table is Potsdam with only one point and one goal scored.

Goalkeeping error puts RB in the lead

Cologne got off to a bitter start: goalkeeper Paula Hoppe made a big mistake and shot at Fudalla. The ball rolled over the line from the Leipzig player. The FC then tried to have a lot of possession – without creating any great chances. Dora Zeller seriously tested ex-Cologne Elvira Herzog in the RB goal for the first time (15th). When Marleen Schimmer finished, Hoppe again seemed unsure, but secured the ball in the follow-up (20th).

Overall, the game was at a modest level. Leipzig repeatedly lost the ball in the build-up game, but Cologne responded with inaccurate passes in attack. Visiting goalkeeper Herzog almost gave the hosts an equalizer, but FC did not take advantage of the serious passing error (32′). Nothing more happened until the break.

FC runs on Leipzig counterattack

The second half began with a lightning start from Leipzig. After just 47 seconds, the ball was in the FC goal because Schimmer was allowed to march through the defense without any real resistance and Hoppe was no longer able to decisively block the shot from eleven meters.

The FC continued to try to create opportunities offensively. But the Cologne women developed no impact. Even more bitter: After a counterattack, they conceded their third goal through Hoffmann. The Rhinelanders still showed morale and kept trying, but too often mistakes followed offensively – except for Ziemer’s consolation goal, which substitute Laura Vogt brilliantly initiated with a dream pass.
