Eleven elves in Droomvlucht Efteling get a different skin color, ‘the rest have remained white’ | Home

In addition to white elves, elves with other skin colors can now also be found in De Droomvlucht in De Efteling. Spokesman Steven van Gils reports this on Thursday.

“Eleven elves have been given a different color, the rest have remained white,” says Van Gils.

The decision to change the skin color is not so much the result of complaints, says the spokesperson. ,,It may have been appointed once, but we have not had any persistent complaints. It really is a decision of our own.”

“We want it to be a reflection of society and that children can recognize themselves,” continues Van Gils. It is not clear whether there are plans to make other attractions more diverse. “It is that now that the Droomvlucht is being renovated, we have decided in this case to give elves several colors: white, black and everything in between.”

De Droomvlucht has been closed since October 31 for maintenance. The attraction has not been updated since its opening in 1993.

In addition to the elves, pieces of steel are being replaced, the lamps are going to more sustainable LEDs that also offer more options in terms of color. In addition, large parts of the decor, such as the flowers and plants, will be refurbished. “It really needed to be replaced, people are going to see that it looks fresher.”

The Droomvlucht will be open again from 4 March.
