Electric car burns out at A28 gas station, damage to charging station

An electric car burned out at a gas station along the A28 between Dwingeloo and Beilen.

The fire started while the car was being loaded. The driver tried to drive the car away from the charging station, but was unsuccessful, according to the fire brigade.

According to a spokesperson for the Drenthe safety region, the damage to the charging station is significant. Part of the roof was also damaged. This is inspected with an aerial platform.

Extinguishing a battery is difficult because, according to the spokesperson, it always catches fire when extinguishing is stopped for a while. The fire brigade therefore has a large container brought in to immerse the car in water.

No one was injured in the fire.
