EL PERIÓDICO wins four European design awards

A cover of EL PERIÓDICO with the black silhouette of King Charles III, on the occasion of his coronation, is one of the works winners of the European Newspaper Award (ENA), the most relevant journalistic design awards in Europe and one of the most important in the world. It so happens that this cover is the continuation of a previous one, dedicated to his mother Queen Elizabeth II when she died, and which also won an ENA award in 2022. In total, EL PERIÓDICO, a newspaper belonging to the Prensa Ibérica group , has received this year four distinctions from these prestigious awardsto which in its 25th edition more than 3,500 design works had been submitted in the 20 categories of the competition.

The rest of the newspaper prizes are for one double page referring to biodiversity at a crossroads in Eixample from Barcelona (Enric Granados with Consell de Cent), in the category of visual narrativeand two others, along paths map-based infographicsone of analysis prior to the municipal elections of May 28 (which accompanied the information titled ‘What is at stake for each party in these elections?’), and another after the election, which showed the evolution of the results between 2019 and 2023.

Also ‘Active’ and ‘April’two Prensa Ibérica supplements that are distributed with EL PERIÓDICO, have been awarded in different categories. Specifically, the economic supplement ‘Activos’ has won 12 awards, including one for layout and typesetting, and another for a report on the beer production in Spain. For its part, the literary supplement ‘Abril’ obtained recognition for the illustration of Pablo García and Sara Martínez, in an article dedicated to literature emerging from the pandemic.

The set of supplements and newspapers of Prensa Ibérica have achieved 50 ENA awards, eight more than those obtained in the previous edition, which consolidates it as one of the most attractive European publishing groups due to the design of its contents. ‘La Provincia’, with 15 awards, heads the list of group publications distinguished by the ENA, followed by ‘Activos’ (12 awards), ‘Faro de Vigo’ (10), ‘La Nueva España’ (eight), ‘ EL PERIÓDICO’ (four) and ‘Abril’ (one). Awards that recognize the work of the different design teams of Prensa Ibérica, headed by Jorge Martínez and Joel Mercè.

The awards will be presented on June 19 and 20, 2024 at Schönbrunn Palace (Vienna).
