The Eisbären Berlin has signed attackers Andreas Eder. The 29-year-old comes from the league competitor EHC Red Bull Munich and signed a contract for two years at the master of the German Ice Hockey League (DEL). The club announced this on Saturday.

With the move to Berlin, Eder follows the traces of his younger brother Tobias, whose death had shaken the polar bears and the entire league at the beginning of the year. The 26-year-old died of the consequences of cancer in January, and the club celebrated its eleventh championship title in the spring.

Sportily, the newcomer has plenty of experience. So far, Andreas Eder has played 437 DEL games for Munich, the Nuremberg Ice Tigers and Straubing Tigers and comes to 221 scorer points. In the meantime, the right shooter also played in the Swiss National League for the EV Zug. With Munich he won three championships.

“Andy has already demonstrated his class several times and will play an important role on our offensive. It is versatile and assertive. He can also play both as a center and as a wing striker,” said Eisbear sports director Stéphane Richer.

Eder looks forward to his time in Berlin. “The polar bears are not only sporty first class. I got to know the entire organization as incredibly helpful and familiar. I look into the future positively and would like to contribute to a successful season,” he said.
