Eintracht Frankfurt suffered a significant defeat in the European Cup. The Hessians need “a miracle” in the second leg.
In the semi-finals of the European Cup, Eintracht Frankfurt lost the home game against the Swedish champions BK Häcken 0:3 (0:1). Felicia Schröder scored twice for the guests, Alva Selerud scored the first goal. In order to progress, the Frankfurters now need a very big win in the second leg on April 2nd in Gothenburg.
Selerud took the lead in the 16th minute in front of 4,100 spectators in the Brentanobad stadium. The 18-year-old Schröder increased the score in the 70th and 84th minutes. Their first goal came after a bad pass from Sara Doorsoun on the halfway line. Keeper Lina Altenburg was well in front of the goal and still got her hands on the ball – the ball still rolled into the net.
In the first half, Frankfurt found no means against the robust Swedes and deservedly fell behind. After the break, the Hessians pushed for the next goal. The game played almost exclusively in the direction of the Häcken goal – but Frankfurt didn’t manage to score.
Laura Freigang classified the performance after the game. “We did well for long stretches, but there weren’t enough shots,” said the German international, according to the club’s own website. Her teammate Géraldine Reuteler added: “It’s totally disappointing. We can’t lose 3-0.” Nevertheless, progress is “not impossible, we still have a chance,” emphasized Reuteler. “We have to go all in and perform a little miracle.”
The second leg will take place on April 2nd in Sweden. In the other semi-final, Hammarby IF beat Sparta Prague 3-2.
