Transfer to Man City before completion

The big stage belonged to Omar Marmoush, most likely for the last time. The top striker, who is expected to leave Eintracht Frankfurt for Manchester City in the coming days, enjoyed the warm applause of the fans. Marmoush no longer played in the convincing 2-0 win against Borussia Dortmund – the 25-year-old Egyptian was still the big topic of Friday evening.

Because: Marmoush is moving to the Premier League, champions Man City and coach Pep Guardiola are apparently ready for a transfer fee of up to 80 million euros including bonus payments. Accordingly, the attacker with 15 goals this season received the big farewell in civilian clothes, which was given to him not only by the fans but also by all of his teammates behind him. “Omar should get the best sendoff ever. He’s a great guy and fully deserves it,” said goalscorer Oscar Højlund after the moving scenes in front of the Frankfurter Curve. After Sébastien Haller, Luka Jovic and Randal Kolo Muani, Marmoush becomes the fourth striker to leave the Bundesliga club from Hesse in the recent past for a huge transfer fee. Unlike Kolo Muani, who went on strike in the summer of 2023 before moving to Paris Saint-Germain, Eintracht and Marmoush part ways with positive feelings.
“It was an amazing moment, even in the dressing room. It’s a great spirit. Everyone appreciates this from the bottom of their hearts, and everyone understands. We wish him all the best if the thing goes through,” said coach Dino Toppmöller. The Hessians only brought Marmoush on a free transfer from VfL Wolfsburg a year and a half ago, and an official announcement of the transfer to Manchester is expected over the weekend.
Eintracht confirmed on Friday evening that the club was in talks with another club and that Marmoush was therefore not in the squad against BVB. “The probability is very high that he will leave us,” said sports director Markus Krösche on the sidelines of the game against Dortmund on the streaming service “DAZN” and added: “Ultimately it is Manchester City, with whom we have been in close contact for a day or two are. It could be that he leaves us for Manchester City. (…) We are talking about Manchester City. This is not a normal club. This is a huge step for him, a huge opportunity. We have always said that if a player develops faster than us as a club, we will give him the opportunity to take the next step.”
