Extension talks
Eintracht Frankfurt wants to extend the contract with national goalkeeper Kevin Trapp and keep him in the club after the end of his career. “We definitely want to extend him and bind him beyond his active career,” said sports director Markus Krösche of “Sport Bild”.
“The exchange is good and relaxed. He still has a contract until 2024. We don’t feel any time pressure,” Krösche continued. The Frankfurt board of directors had already spoken at the end of October about exchanging ideas with Trapp for “two or three months”. The “Bild” wrote at the time that the keeper would probably have to forego salary in the event of an extension. The top earner, who is entitled to 3.5 million euros a year, can only be offered a reduced salary of 2 million euros.

Trapp has been playing for Eintracht with a three-year break at Paris Saint-Germain since 2012. In August, the homegrown player from 1. FC Kaiserslautern rejected a request from Manchester United, saying at the time: “Yesterday I informed those responsible at both clubs that I had decided on Eintracht. I experienced sensational things here with Eintracht and we made history together.”
Trapp asked for understanding for his considerations as to whether he should switch to the “Red Devils”. “There has been a lot of talk about interest from Manchester United over the past few days,” he wrote. “It is correct that there is a written offer. Manchester United is a world club. I hope everyone can understand that I am dealing with such an offer and thinking about it.”
With Kevin, the question is probably more about the squad. Not only would he be paid more based on success in the future, he has always had ambitious goals that he would like to achieve. We are right now facing an interesting six months. I think Kevin will look at the development and make a gut decision at the end. In my opinion, it will be less about money than competitiveness. …
