Eintracht Frankfurt | Götze looks at the DFB team: “It’s good that I’m not a coach”

Mario Götze is happy not to be the coach of the German national soccer team.

In an interview with the “Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung”, the scorer said about the 2014 World Cup triumph when asked whether he thought the criticism of Hansi Flick was justified: “In the end it’s also about results. As a national coach, you are measured by your success. The European Championships in Germany next year are associated with expectations. It’s good that I’m not a coach.”

Götze, now 31 years old, was called back to the national team by Flick after around five years and made his DFB comeback at the World Cup finals in Qatar last year. In his two rather short appearances after he was substituted on, Götze was unable to avert the disastrous end of the group phase.

“I have a very good relationship with Hansi Flick,” he replied in the “FAZ” interview when asked if he – Götze – could make the national team better. “He has to decide whether I can help the team,” said Götze, who was not nominated for the June games and was not included in the current squad.
