Eintracht Frankfurt: Glasner asks quality question – Tottenham interest

Departure possible in summer

“It’s a question of quality. I don’t know how you can train quality,” said Eintracht Frankfurt coach Oliver Glasner after the recent defeat of the Bundesliga against Union Berlin. In view of his statements, numerous experts promptly said that the 48-year-old would not be unwilling to say goodbye to SGE in the summer. According to a report, Tottenham Hotspur has asked the Austrian’s agent about his availability – at White Hart Lane, however, Antonio Conte is facing the end of the summer.

Frankfurt had only been able to win one of the last eight competitive games, the end of the Champions League was followed on Sunday by the sobering bankruptcy of the Hessians in the direct competitor for the international places from Köpenick. “Everything I say today can and will be used against me,” Glasner said at the press conference. With a view to his team’s performance, the coach spoke of “underground” and added visibly pissed off: “We have to be honest, palavering doesn’t help. The fact is that we always lose our games in the same way.”

While Glasner’s sweeping blow was interpreted by some not only as criticism towards the SBU professionals, but also towards that of sports director Markus Krösche, he tried to mediate on Monday. “We exchanged ideas and we had the same view of things! Oliver reacted emotionally after the game. That sometimes happens with a trainer, because some mistakes are repeated,” Krösche told the “Picture“-Newspaper. As reported by the newspaper and the magazine “Kicker”, Glasner’s possible departure seems less and less unlikely, despite his contract, which runs until 2024.

“If an inquiry comes from abroad, I believe that Oliver will think about it,” philosophized the former Frankfurt coach Friedhelm Funkel on Sunday evening in the TV show “Sky 90” into the blue. According to “Bild”, such a move could now take shape – according to which Glasner’s advisor was contacted by Tottenham Hotspur, “Spurs” were interested in the services of the reigning Europa League winner. At White Hart Lane, according to Antonio Conte’s most recent statements, it is assumed that the Italian will be history at the club by summer at the latest. English tabloid media reported on Monday that the 53-year-old’s release was imminent.

The coming weeks will show whether the trail to London is more concrete. It seems clear: the recent performances of his team do not meet Glasner’s requirements. Should the SGE play a titleless season after the international triumph of the previous season and possibly miss out on qualifying for European business, the signs could also be goodbye for Glasner. After the home game against VfL Bochum, Union Berlin will once again be waiting for Eintracht in the quarter-finals of the DFB Cup at the beginning of April, followed by the trend-setting duels in the Bundesliga with Bayer 04 Leverkusen and Borussia Dortmund, among others.

Krösche on the situation at Eintracht: “There are such phases”

Sports director Krösche is meanwhile trying to bring calm back to the team and the environment during the international break. “We shouldn’t make the mistake of letting bad vibes talk us into it. We could have won all the games – that shows that there are such phases in a development. We would have gladly done without it – but we have to deal with it. Now we have two weeks; and we restart against Bochum. Everything is still in there,” announced the 42-year-old.
