After the end of Borussia Dortmund and FC Bayern, Eintracht Frankfurt was the last German representative in Europe. But the Hesse failed due to Tottenham.
The title dream has burst: Eintracht Frankfurt has left the Europa League. In the quarter -finals, Hessen against Tottenham Hotspur ended. In the German Bank Park witch kettle, Eintracht lost 0: 1 on Thursday, which meant the 1-1 in the first leg.
Dominic Solanke scored the decisive goal in Frankfurt in the 43rd minute by penalty. Eintracht goalkeeper Kauã Santos had previously brought down English international James Maddison in the penalty area.
The Frankfurters went into their showdown highly motivated. “I woke up goose bumps this morning. We are all totally looking forward to the game, the boys really feel like,” said coach Dino Toppmöller before kick -off at RTL and announced: “We are writing our own history – and today want to add another chapter.”
The fans delivered with a huge choreography before kick -off. A banner with the coveted trophy accompanied by the lettering “The eagles are on the witness – we haven not enough” should motivate the team.
The Londoners competed without their captain, the former Bundesliga player Heung-Min Son, he had not traveled because of a foot injury. For him, Bayern loan started Mathys Tel in the storm.
The Eintracht started out of the deafening catch channels wide awake and attacked early, but then gave the guests the ball more and more. The huge chance for Hugo Ekitiké came up when a brilliant discount from Santos found the perfectly launched striker. Micky van de Ven prevented the end at the last second (16th).
In their pressure phases, Eintracht was missing the crucial impulse without the strategist, which was injured early on, Mario Götze. Götze’s replacement man Fares Chaibi fit in with a good header (25th), seconds later, first leg hero Santos showed his class when he dashed a shot from Tel.
At the biggest excitement, the goalkeeper was once again the focus: in the duel with Tottenhams James Maddison, he cleared the Englishman, but touched the ball slightly. Both were treated, referee Davide Massa, meanwhile, looked at the pictures and decided on a penalty. Solanese hit confidently.
But Frankfurt continued to press, a free kick from Chaibi (51st), like a header by Rasmus Kristensen, was just over. The Spurs repeatedly set accents and had the best way to increase through Cristian Romero’s header (61.). Then Kristensen gave the great chance to equalize (82nd).
