Eintracht Frankfurt confirms: Daichi Kamada is leaving in the summer

After 6 years at the club

Daichi Kamada (26) is leaving Eintracht Frankfurt on a free transfer in the summer after six years at the club. The Hessians announced on Wednesday that the Japanese will not extend his expiring contract. With a market value of 30 million euros, Kamada is one of the most valuable Bundesliga professionals that can be had for free after this season.

“Daichi Kamada has developed into a very good Bundesliga player at Eintracht Frankfurt in recent years and has played his part in the sporting development of the club – with the highlight of the Europa League victory last year. We would have liked to see Daichi at Eintracht in the future, but the player’s interests did not go hand in hand. We would like to thank him for his commitment to Eintracht and wish him all the best for the future,” said sporting director Markus Krösche.

It had already been indicated that Kamada and SGE would go their separate ways. At the end of February, the “Bild” newspaper reported that the offensive player had turned down an offer worth around 3 million euros per season. Krösche recently emphasized in the “Aktuelles Sportstudio” that the tendency is towards farewell. Speculations about a move to league rivals Borussia Dortmund came into play, but according to “Bild” such a move is unrealistic: Kamada should rather prefer a transfer abroad. Most recently, the Spanish top clubs Atlético Madrid and FC Barcelona were traded as interested parties.

Kamada switched from his native Japan to the “Adler” in 2017 for a fee of 1.6 million euros, where he really got off to a flying start after returning from a loan at Belgian VV St. Truiden. To date, the national player has made 170 appearances for SGE, scoring 37 goals and assisting 31 – this season he has contributed 18 goals. Last season, Kamada helped the club win the Europa League, scoring on penalties in the final in Seville against Scottish side Glasgow Rangers.

Eintracht Frankfurt: Ndicka can replace Kamada as the most valuable free transfer

Kamada would now be the most valuable free transfer in SGE history, but defender Evan Ndicka (23) is also looming in the summer. The Frenchman is valued at €32m and, like Kamada and others, is said to have piqued Barça’s interest. In mid-February, “Sport1” said that Ndicka and Blaugrana had even reached an agreement on cooperation. However, the decision about a transfer was not final at the time.
