Transfer fee at Haaland level?

Manchester City is once again looking towards the Bundesliga when looking for reinforcements. Like the English newspaper “The Telegraph“ reports, coach Pep Guardiola’s team is pushing for a commitment from Eintracht Frankfurt’s high-flyer Omar Marmoush (25), who, alongside Bayern star Harry Kane (31), is the top goalscorer and scorer in the German upper house.

According to “Sky” transfer reporter Florian Plettenberg, Man City have now officially informed Eintracht that they are aiming to buy the player immediately. The Frankfurt team therefore do not want to let Marmoush go for less than 80 million euros, while from the point of view of City and the striker’s representatives an amount of up to 60 million euros is more realistic. Marmoush’s market value also rose to this amount in the Bundesliga’s December update. “There is no contact between the clubs and as long as that is not the case, we don’t need to talk about it,” said coach Dino Toppmöller at a press conference. Marmoush is a player of enormous importance. “He makes a good impression in training and will also be in the starting line-up on Saturday.”
Update January 9th, 7:03 p.m.: But there are apparently lively negotiations going on behind the scenes. As “Sky” reported on Thursday evening, the Marmoush side has now reached a verbal agreement with Man City about a transfer. Accordingly, the attacker wants to switch to the English immediately and the SGE has also been informed about this. The first offer from the Citizens is expected by the weekend at the latest.
The Skyblues are convinced that the 25-year-old can hit the ground running in the Premier League due to his pace and ability to play in multiple attacking positions. The Egyptian international quadrupled his market value last year; only six professionals worldwide recorded a greater increase. Marmoush is tied to Eintracht until 2027, and there is no exit clause, as sports director Markus Krösche recently revealed: “Nothing is regulated.” A sale in the winter is not actually planned.
“We want to keep this team together in the winter so that we can achieve our sporting goals. We still have a lot of potential for development in one area or another, but also as a team. Omar is an important part of that. “So the question doesn’t arise,” said Krösche on “Welt TV”. Of course there are always pain limits. “There are always sums where we as a club have to consider whether it is the right moment and the right amount. But we’re not that far.” Basically, the club is dependent on transfer proceeds. In the event of a departure, a replacement would have to be found; candidates include Jonathan Burkardt (24) from Mainz or Arnaud Kalimuendo (22) from Stade Rennes.
Marmoush next? Manchester City and the Bundesliga focus
After difficult sporting weeks, Man City wants to strengthen the squad in order to make it back into the Champions League places in the Premier League. As currently sixth in the table, the Skyblues are two points behind and are already twelve points behind league leaders Liverpool. With six defeats, Guardiola’s team has already recorded twice as many defeats after 20 games as in the previous season. In the premier class there is also a risk of an early exit with 22nd place.
The Citizens recently liked to look to Germany when looking for new players. A total of 325 million euros flowed over the last ten years for Erling Haaland (24) – also cost 60 million euros -, Josko Gvardiol (22), Manuel Akanji (29), Leroy Sané (28), İlkay Gündoğan (34) and Kevin De Bruyne (33) to Bundesliga clubs. Only Sané, who lives in Munich today, is no longer in Manchester. Man City only spent more money on new signings from the Premier League in the last decade, just over 500 million euros. With the rumored sum, Marmoush would be the Skyblues’ second most expensive winter transfer behind Aymeric Laporte (30; 2018 for 65 million euros from Bilbao).
