Eindhoven Airport will not take over flights from Schiphol after all. The regional airport previously indicated that it could take over eight flights. But that is not a suitable option for the airlines at Schiphol, a spokesperson for Eindhoven Airport said.
Schiphol wants to prevent unmanageable crowds and has consulted with airlines about a solution for this weekend. The emphasis is on moving flights, but airlines do not consider it a suitable option to divert to Eindhoven Airport.
“We have indicated at Schiphol at what times there is room, the airlines ultimately decide. All factors have to be right, it’s quite a puzzle that you have to put together. It’s about having just that one hole,” explains a spokeswoman for Eindhoven Airport.
Other Airports
Schiphol expects 57,000 departing passengers on Saturday and 63,000 on Sunday. In total there are six departing flights that will be moved to Rotterdam The Hague Airport.
Schiphol will also take additional measures this weekend. Extra staff will be deployed, including from the office, and a canopy has been installed for travelers waiting outside the terminal. Schiphol expects the vast majority of travelers to make their flight.
