For almost a year, the volunteers of the Protestant Church in the area of Beilen, Hijken and Hooghalen have been busy with a new musical. This year is all about Moses. A well -known Biblical story that all players can dream.
“It is the Bible story that is very close to the people,” says Ageet van Dijken of the working group. “They don’t have to delve into the story, everyone knows it.”
To brighten it up, there are also passages in the piece that do not occur in the Bible. That’s how Moses has a girlfriend. “It is not in the Bible. Maybe he had it, but we don’t know that,” laughs Van Dijken. She likes the addition because it gives an extra dimension to the story.
In total there are 80 volunteers who help with the musical. From costume designers, to set builders. But also think of designers and technicians, the help comes from all corners. It is the largest group of volunteers so far for the community.
“The best thing is to do it together,” says Rutger Olthof. He was always in the band and now he plays the leading role. “That takes some getting used to. This is the first time that I have been doing something with theater.”
No matter how enthusiastic everyone is, the role of Moses remained unpleased as one of the last roles. “Then they actually pulled me in,” laughs Olthof. “There was no way back. Only ahead, just like Moses.”
The rehearsals started in October. The working group has been busy for some time. “We always spend a year out for the preparation,” says Van Dijken.
This weekend is the implementation. “I look a lot like it, it gives a certain form of adrenaline,” says Van Dijken. Then it is first ready. “We will only start again with the next one in a few months.”
