A good eight months after her resignation from competitive sports, Meolie Jauch surprisingly won the title on the uneven bars at the German Gymnastics Championships. After only three appearances in the 2nd Bundesliga and the qualification on Friday, the 18-year-old won 13.233 points in Dresden for her new club TS NeckarGym Nürtingen.
“It is so surreal. I am overwhelmed what I and my team of coaches did in the past six months,” said the happy returnee, who is looked after by her youth coach Ghazal SeilSepour after her departure from MTV Stuttgart.
In mid-December, the World Cup starter from 2023 unexpectedly declared her resignation at the age of 17. “I listen to my inner voice and end the top sport. Not because I don’t want to fight anymore, not because my body can no longer – but because it is no longer mentally,” she justified the step. As a result, the abuse scandal at the Kunst-Turn-Forum Stuttgart was made public by former top gymnasts.
Eder gets second title
Meanwhile, Timo Eder won his second title. Two days after his premiere victory in the all-around, the mixed European champion from Ludwigsburg also secured first place on the ground with 13,466 points.
BARREN European champion Nils Dunkel from Halle/Saale won the decision on the pommel horse with 13,633 points in front of Eder. Alexander Kunz (Pfuhl) won the rings with 13.566 points.
