For the past two editions, Le Champion had to adjust the course. The groundwater was so high in the dunes that runners could not pass in some places. That is why, in the past two years, when leaving the beach at Castricum, the participants did not immediately go into the dunes, but first walked along the Zeeweg.

PWN has raised the Grote Veldweg through the dunes and therefore the original route is almost completely passable again. “We are going back to the original route for 95 percent,” said Wouda, senior event manager at Le Champion. “At Castricum aan Zee we enter the Vlewoseweg, which ends at the Grote Veldweg. It was flooded last year.”

The route through the dunes is in fantastic condition again, says Wouda. “This is a more beautiful part of the course, but it is a bit tougher for the participants.”

Work at Bakkum campsite

Only at the Bakkum campsite has the route been slightly adjusted due to work, says Wouda. “And also because we want to keep the modified route along the campsite from recent years partly intact. This allows us to involve the central square and the reception more in the event.”

The participants leave the campsite again via Van Speijklaan and Staringweg. “From there we go onto Herderslaan, where we continued to follow the Staringweg for the past two years.” The organization’s intention is to follow the full original route again as soon as possible.
