Willy and Egbert Knol were married for 65 years on Monday. Alderman Jeroen Westendorp came by to congratulate the couple. The special moment was already celebrated last weekend with children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Willy grew up in a family of four children, Egbert was one of seven children. They met in 1953. Since then, Egbert has adapted his cycling route to be with Willy in the evenings. They were married five years later on August 28, 1958. Together they had three children, all sons.
Egbert earned his living as a driver at Ambrosius in his working life and Willy had various jobs such as the mounted police and Bakker Bramer. When the children came she took care of the family. Together, the couple has worked as caretaker of various apartments.
That the couple loves to travel is not unknown to those who know them. Many kilometers were covered in the car to travel to Norway or Portugal. Even today, Egbert and Willy can easily drive across the country to visit family or friends.
