Edson da Graça actually doesn’t think he is experienced enough for a big show like The Voice of Holland, of which he is the new presenter. “This came a little faster than I expected.”
RTL 4 dares to do it again after three years: Chantal Janzen opens a new season of The Voice of Holland tonight. This time not with Martijn Krabbé, but with the novice presenter Edson da Graça at her side. To be honest, he doesn’t fully understand why he was chosen, he admits in conversation with him A.D.
To trust
Edson was in the middle of recording Het Perfecte Plaatje in Italy when he was asked for this prestigious job. “I didn’t know what I heard. I had to isolate myself for a while. Of course I immediately thought: ‘What an opportunity, I’m going to do this.’ As if you are a professional and Barcelona or Real Madrid come knocking. Then try to resist that.”
However, there was also doubt, he admits. “I felt like I had to grow even more. This came a little faster than I expected, but it was very cool of course. I went to RTL for great entertainment, but The Voice, no, I had not thought about that. Apparently RTL has confidence in me.”
Diversity
According to TV experts such as Mark Koster and Victor Vlam, it is evident that Edson benefits from the diversity policy of RTL boss Peter van der Vorst. Buddy Vedder is the victim of that. He was going to present The Voice Kids, but was suddenly exchanged for the ‘more diverse’ Quinty Misiedjan.
Edson himself insists that RTL has a lot of confidence in him. “And Chantal also called. ‘I think it would be really cool to do this with you,’ she said. ‘You have talent, you have the potential to do well.’”
Blonde women
All recordings have now been completed. How did it go? “Exciting and at the same time very familiar. I am lucky to have those blonde women around me, haha. I was in good hands with Nicolette Kluijver during Expedition Robinson. Chantal is also such a powerhouse,” says Edson.
“I’ve already watched the first episode. I usually think: why are you looking like that, why are you acting like that, this has to be better, but now I thought: wow, you’re in a good place, dude.”
