ANDDDINGTON
Type: dramatic, grotesque ✦✦✦
Direction: Ari Aster. With Joaquin Phoenix, Pedro Pascal, Luke Grimes, Emma Stone

Eddington is a fictional town in New Mexico. Joe Cross (Phoenix) is the sheriffa good person who, in the first part of the film, fits well into the black comedy structured by the author of Midsummerking Beau is Afraid.

Aster invites us to stand by his side when he endures humiliation (from his political rival, the mayor Pedro Pascal, from his wife Emma Stone who sews unsellable dolls, from his conspiracy theorist mother-in-law, from young white and privileged supporters of the Black Lives Matter movement), until the logic of “so much worse” prevails in the masochistic antihero.

«The pandemic marked the moment when society as we knew it ceased to exist» says the author. «Since then the process has been irreversible».And perhaps the dark omen does not only concern that periphery of the Empire, that sad borderland.
