Spanish eco-brand Ecoalf has opened its first mono-material store in San Sebastián, built from FSC-certified paper and recyclable cardboard.
The 185 square meter store was created in cooperation with the packaging specialist Smurfit Westrock. He developed walls and furniture exclusively from one type of material in order to implement a consistently circular approach to shop furnishings. The walls are made of kraft paper, the furniture is made of double-walled corrugated cardboard made from renewable fibers and recycled material. All elements are quickly biodegradable and 100 percent recyclable. They were produced at the Smurfit Westrock factory in Porto. The paper comes from sustainably managed forests in southern France.
The store follows Ecoalf’s claim to conserve resources, reuse existing components and make every opening climate-neutral. Like all Ecoalf locations, this one is powered by electricity from renewable energies.
As early as 2023, Ecoalf opened a sensational store in Madrid made of 3D-printed recycled plastic, whose ice-like appearance was intended to be reminiscent of the melting of glaciers.
With the opening, Ecoalf is also strengthening its presence in the region and continuing its national and international expansion.
