The organization of the Easter fire in Rolde has to look for a new location. The Easter fire has been on a piece of land owned by the James Church for many years. But he no longer wants to participate in this in the future.
“We call ourselves a green church and an Easter fire is no longer part of that,” says Goos Knol, chairman of the church council at the Jacobuskerk. “We believe that we should no longer want that for ecological reasons. It is polluting for both the soil and the soil. And that no longer suits us.”
At the Jacobuskerk they have taken the environment more into account in recent years. For example, the grass around the church on Kerkbrink is only partially mowed in May to help insects.
The Easter fire is organized by the Boermarke Rolde-Nijlande-Eldersloo. They lease the land on Esstraat from the church. But the lease expires after 2027 and the church does not want to renew it.
