Following Erica, there is no Easter fire this year in Nieuw-Schoonebeek. According to the organization, this is due to a too high price tag.

The Easter fire could not be kept in the familiar place in Nieuw-Schoonebeek this year. Moving to another location brought extra costs. For example, a nitrogen examination had to be carried out.

“As a result, the costs are too high. This makes it not feasible for us to let the event continue. We think this is very unfortunate,” the organization says. The New Schoone cups hope to be able to organize an Easter fire again in 2026. “At the old place we can just apply for a permit next year.”

Also on Erica there is a line through the tradition this year. To the great displeasure of the organization, the municipality of Emmen recently issued no permit for an Easter fire at a new location. “This falls very raw on our roof. We have put a lot of energy into it,” said organizer Barry Gepken.
