UpdateParts of Morocco were shocked by an earthquake with a magnitude of 6.8 late on Friday evening. The epicenter of the quake, which occurred at a depth of 18.5 kilometers according to the American seismological institute USGS, was located more than seventy kilometers southwest of Marrakesh, near the town of Adassil.

According to USGS, another shock followed about twenty minutes later, with a magnitude of 4.1. The epicenter was further south, about 50 kilometers northeast of the town of Taroudant.
Images of the earthquakes were shared on social media during the night from Friday to Saturday, showing buildings shaking and people running into the streets. It is not yet clear how extensive the damage is and whether there have been any injuries.
Several residents of Marrakech report that water, light and internet have been cut, according to a journalist from the French news channel ‘La Chaîne Info’ on X.
