Early farewell to US Open from reigning champion Emma Raducanu – Breaking Tennis news



The second day of the US Open Tennis Tournament, held in New York City, was completed with the matches in the evening session.


In the women’s singles first round, Emma Raducanu (seeded 11) faced world number 40 Alize Cornet. Cornet won 2-0 with 6-3 sets.


Another unexpected result was Clara Burel in the 131st place of the classification, who eliminated Wimbledon champion Elena Rybakina (25) with a score of 2-0 (6-4, 6-4).


Danielle Collins (19) advanced to the 2nd round by defeating 2018 and 2020 champion Naomi Osaka 2-0 (7-6, 6-3), whose career has been on the decline for the past two years.


Paula Badosa (4), Belinda Bencic (13) and 2016 finalist Karolina Pliskova (22) also continued on their way.


NADAL IS BACK FROM 1-0


Rafael Nadal (2), trying to keep fit after an injury that caused him to be away from the field for 6 weeks, faced Rinky Hijikata at the 198th place in the men’s world rankings.


Nadal, who won 4 titles at the US Open, lost the first set 6-4, but won the next sets 6-2, 6-3, 6-3 and reached the 2nd round.


Hubert Hurkacz (8), beat 41st place Oscar Otte 3-0 and Andrey Rublev (9) beat world 64th place Laslo Djere 3-2.


Jannik Sinner (11), Diego Schwartzman (14), 2014 champion Marin Cilic (15) and Borna Coric (25) also got their second round ticket.
