Dynamo Dresden fires coach Alexander Schmidt – and draws consequences

Alexander Schmidt was promoted to the 2nd Bundesliga with Dynamo Dresden and got off to a good start there with the promoted team. But now it doesn’t work anymore. The club has now drawn the consequences.

Alexander Schmidt is no longer the coach of second division club Dynamo Dresden. The club announced this on Tuesday. The Saxons are reacting to a devastating development. Dynamo has not won any of the previous seven games in the second half of the season, including crushing defeats against relegation rivals Ingolstadt (0:3) and Rostock (1:4).

Due to the weak balance of the second half of the season, the traditional club from the east is deep in the relegation battle. Dresden is in 14th place in the table, just one point ahead of the relegation place where Hansa Rostock is.

Interim coach is fixed

Bad luck has recently added to the poor performances of late. Dynamo lost against Darmstadt (0-1) on Saturday evening with an unfortunate goal in injury time. Dresden did not offer a bad performance, for a long time they were on an equal footing with Darmstadt 98, aspiring for promotion.

The Schmidt successor has already been determined, at least temporarily. Ferydoon Zandi will take over the team on an interim basis. At least on Sunday in the difficult away game in Bremen (1.30 p.m. in the t-online live ticker) Zandi will be on the sidelines.
