The German volleyball players have qualified for the final tournament of the Nations League for the first time in two years.
Even before the two final preliminary rounds, the team of national coach Giulio Bregoli had been the ticket for the quarter-finals thanks, in a duel with China the selection of the German Volleyball Association (DVV) received 2: 3 (25:22, 26:24, 17:25, 16:18), however.
Previously, the Netherlands had conquered 3: 2 Czech Republic that Germany was no longer able to take a place below the top dight. So far, the DVV team had only made the leap into the quarter-finals in 2023. The round of the top eight takes place from July 23 to 27 in Lodz in Poland.
Against China, the Bregoli team in Arlington/USA still had to accept the fifth defeat in the eleventh game, but Emilia Weske was nevertheless a positive conclusion. “We take good things out of the game. We fought well, put everything in, attacked and opened without fear,” said the diagonal attacker, who was the best scorer to the German team with 22 points: “China is a top team and it didn’t miss much, we never gave up until the end.”
In the last game of the first phase, Germany will meet the Dominican Republic on Sunday (6:30 p.m./Sportstudio.de). The DVV team wanted to “end the week with a win,” emphasized Weske.
