The Volleyball Federation has new leadership. The resigned President René Hecht and his board member Julia Frauendorf have left the new DVV boss Markus Dieckmann with great tasks.
Two-time European Beach Volleyball Champion Markus Dieckmann is the new President of the German Volleyball Association (DVV). The 47-year-old was elected unanimously at the extraordinary general meeting in Bremen. Alongside him, beach volleyball Olympic champions Julius Brink and Matthias Hach will join the executive committee as vice presidents. Dieckmann was the only candidate.
Election unavoidable after resignations
The new Executive Committee is completed by the Vice-President Katharina Dierlamm, who is still in office, as well as Janine Stanelle (German Volleyball Youth), Maren Fromm (Athletes’ spokeswoman) and Daniel Sattler (Bundesliga Volleyball).
The only item on the agenda of the extraordinary general meeting was the election of a new DVV President. This became necessary after President René Hecht (61) and Vice-Presidents Volker Schiemenz, Holger Schell and Hach resigned in July. Record national player Hecht had headed the association since 2018.
Trust withdrawn at crisis meetings
The state associations and the volleyball federal league had previously withdrawn their trust from the presidium at a crisis meeting. The contract with board member Julia Frauendorf (32) was also terminated on August 31. Hecht brought Frauendorf to the DVV in February 2022. She was supposed to modernize the DVV, but was controversial.
In the important year for the qualification for the Olympic Games 2024 in Paris there was always unrest. Numerous employees as well as coaches and important officials left the association in strife or had to go.
Sports director wanted
One of the first tasks of the new management will be to find a person for the full-time sports director. After that, important posts in competitive sports for the hall and the beach area are to be filled.
