Dutch soldiers receive 8.5 percent more wages | Abroad

In the Netherlands, Defense personnel will receive 8.5 percent more wages and a one-off payment of 1,750 euros. The ministry and military unions have agreed that. The unions present the result of the collective labor agreement negotiations to their members with a positive advice.

The terms of employment agreement runs from 2021 to 2023. The collective labor agreement means that employees in the lower ranks and scales can improve by more than 20 percent, according to the ministry. The parties have also agreed on new salary scales. The current system is over a hundred years old.

Furthermore, the supplements for exercises and missions will be “considerably” increased retroactively. The employees will receive a higher travel allowance and there will be a work-from-home allowance.

5 billion

The Dutch Defense will receive an additional 5 billion euros on a structural basis. The government had already made half a billion available for the staff. The hope is that a higher salary will help the ministry to attract and retain more people.

The new Defense Memorandum, which will be presented tomorrow, also states that the ministry wants to purchase another six new F-35 fighter aircraft. The navy must also get cruise missiles. Finally, the Netherlands also wants to buy four new unmanned Reaper drones, which would double the current number. The Netherlands had already ordered 46 F-35s to replace the F-16s.
