Dutch soldier dies during exercise in Germany | News item

A 28-year-old Dutch army officer died this afternoon in Germany. This happened after he was seriously injured during an exercise with a CV90 infantry fighting vehicle at the Hohenfels military site in Bavaria. A 24-year-old soldier was slightly injured.

The seriously injured first lieutenant was resuscitated on the spot. Both victims were then taken to a hospital. The officer succumbed to his injuries there.

The Royal Military Police is investigating. This is done under the direction of the East Netherlands Public Prosecution Service.

The 2 soldiers come from 43 Mechanized Brigade from Havelte.

The family of both victims has been informed. The slightly injured person did that himself.

The exercise in Hohenfels is part of the preparation process for a German armored infantry brigade. For the Dutch participants, this exercise was mainly focused on the upcoming deployment to Lithuania, to participate in the enhanced Forward Presence.
