Dutch Nassau defeats Croatian Winsum in a spectacle, Jered Faleye almost golden change

Trainer Erwin Heerlijn of Oranje Nassau compared Winsum in advance with the Croatian national team: “Many good football players, but never favorites.” Not on Saturday either, Winsum lost, but came awfully close.

At Winsum, Jered Faleye was on the bench because he was missing from training on Thursday, even without canceling, and you don’t have to do such jokes with a trainer like Fred de Boer. After a hopeless first half, Faleye came into the team and turned the game around. Within fifteen minutes the 2-0 halftime score was neutralized.

Faleye was no Modric, but cleverly slid in a cross from Menno Mulder and moments later Thijs Gerlofs scored the 2-2 against his old team after mediocre defending. Not only were the polar ice caps crumbling, ON’s defensive security was also subject to erosion.

Three penalties claimed in ten seconds

The attractive match, played under sad weather conditions, could have gone either way. Winsum put the home team with its back against the wall and the score was 2-3. It didn’t come and ON slowly straightened up again. Within ten seconds the teams claimed three penalties, once ON, twice Winsum. The excellent leader Robert de Wit, CDA – deputy for the province of Groningen, rightly waved the trio away. Rick Wiersma gave his team the win (3-2) with a beautiful lob fifteen minutes before the end. Ezra Schrijver, who had just come on, finished the job in extra time after a nice cross from Tim Deelen (4-2).

ON captain Ard Veenhof also didn’t understand much of his team’s setback: “It was great before half time. They brought some other guys and started playing opportunistically. We had difficulty with that and then the first opportunity went straight away. Fortunately we recovered. That good first half deserved a better sequel.”

Extra drink

For the sixth season in a row, coach Heerlijn is chasing promotion with ON. It’s only November, but the victory was desperately needed to not lose sight of the upcoming opponents DZOH and WVV. ON faces crucial weeks, three home games in a row must shape their unbridled ambitions. Winsum, where the injured Menno Mulder was missing, is in a completely different position. A mid-table position, playing it safe early and the directors happily enjoy an extra drink in the most beautiful village in the Netherlands.

Beautiful goal Rick Wiersma

Back to the start of the match. After Yume Ramos missed an opportunity for Winsum, ON seized power. It placed the jackhammer on the Winsumer concrete for 45 minutes. After one of the many flashy combinations, Youri Schuur used the rebound after a shot by Jim de Leeuw (1-0). A little later, Stan Verhoeven looked innocent like a toddler in need of a hug, but his stupid foul on Rick Wiersma earned ON a penalty. This was used coolly by Peter van Son (2-0). The deficit did not change Winsum’s fighting style, which willingly collapsed when it lost the ball.

The construction of ON was a feast for the eyes at times. When Winsum pressed it once, it was expertly sent from pillar to post. It was therefore a small miracle that the final decision had not yet been made by the break. Veenhof fired another free kick at the intersection.

Cursing, captain Ramos disappeared inside with a tray of tea. Fred de Boer made two substitutions, let his team attack instead of waiting and suddenly everything was different. It was just not enough, again to the deep disappointment of Ramos, who did not feel like commenting afterwards. His colleague Veenhof did not want to say much about his team’s ambitions: “First, just win a few times in a row.
