Former guitarist of Duran Duran Andy Taylor, 61, has prostate cancer that has spread despite treatment. He received his diagnosis four years ago.

The band told about the sad news while receiving The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame award, which is a prize for meritorious artists.

Taylor was supposed to be at that event, but couldn’t make it due to health reasons. The guitarist would have performed with the band after 17 years.

Lead singer of Duran Duran Simon LeBon read a letter written by Taylor to the audience during the evening. According to the letter and the band, the guitarist’s cancer has spread to other parts of the body.

– Although my current condition is not threatening, there is no cure for it, Taylor says in his letter.

The medication has eased the symptoms, but Taylor’s condition has worsened nonetheless.

– I used to feel well after cancer treatments, but a week ago I suffered from back pain. Honestly, physically and mentally I would have pushed myself beyond my limits, the guitarist reveals why he couldn’t make it to the event.

In his letter, Taylor describes how difficult it has been to get a cancer diagnosis and how it affects his ability to cope and his family.

Despite his situation, the former guitarist is happy about the honor the band has received.

He reveals that he bought a new guitar for tonight’s performance and says that he is proud of his time in the band.

– There is no similar recognition. You can dream about what happened to us, but it’s another thing to experience it. It was absolutely incredible, Taylor describes the times with the band.
