It’s really starting to annoy many people how Duncan Laurence continuously spews all his melancholy over people. Always melancholy, always sad. Never just smile for the camera. Once again he has written an entire epistle about how he has had such emotional years.

Duncan refuses

Private boss Evert Santegoeds is extremely annoyed by this. He regularly lashes out at Duncan, but where does that actually come from? There appears to be some old soreness.

He tells in Show news: “I remember that when he won, we almost dedicated a Privé to him with fourteen pages or so, about the first Eurovision Song Contest winner in almost fifty years. Someone then asked to sign it. No, he didn’t want that, because we had also revealed what that song Arcade was about.”

Deceased loved one

That song Arcade is about a deceased loved one of Duncan. Evert thinks it would be very silly not to sign the Privé because of such a revelation. “Then I think: boy, man, I’m happy that you’re winning, enjoy your success and do something with it. He didn’t do either.”

A terrible song by the way, says Evert. “That song was of course already so depressing, which everyone likes so much, that Arcade, but that is also a family drama that is sung there. It is so difficult to put a positive spin on it.”

Very nice boyfriend

Duncan destroys everything that is fun, the magazine maker growls. “He also had a very nice boyfriend when he won, but he had to go again and then he had the one with the dog. Remember those images? That didn’t help the popularity either.”

Colleague Bart Ettekoven: “He is heavy-handed, but maybe he is like that. Then it is difficult for an outsider to say: ‘Be nice, be cheerful, be cheerful.’ If this is his nature, and it almost seems like it…”
