Ducksch and Terodde continue the series of goals: Werder and Schalke narrowly win

Three home wins in the second division

Marvin Ducksch in sixth place, Simon Terodde (with a break due to injury) in fourth place: the top scorers from Werder Bremen and Schalke 04 continued their scoring streaks in consecutive games and led their clubs to (narrow) success on matchday 21 of the 2nd Bundesliga . On Saturday afternoon, SV Sandhausen completed the trio of teams that were able to record home wins.

Werder Bremen continued their impressive winning streak under coach Ole Werner against Karlsruher SC. The green-whites won their home game against KSC 2-1 (0-0) on Saturday and thus celebrated their sixth win in the sixth game under Werner. In front of 10,000 spectators in the Weser Stadium, which was sold out under corona rules, Ducksch (51st minute) and Anthony Jung (76th) scored the goals for the North Germans.

Philipp Hofmann managed to equalize for the guests (59th), who recently had to pause due to a few corona cases. With the well-deserved success, Werder reduced the gap to leaders Darmstadt, at least temporarily to one point. The Hessians welcome Hamburger SV on Sunday.

Schalke still on the upswing: 2:1 over Regensburg after falling behind

FC Schalke can still hope for a return to the Bundesliga. After the 2-1 (0-1) win over Jahn Regensburg, coach Dimitrios Grammozis’ team moved up to third place in the table for the first time since the end of October, at least for a short time, and thus into the promotion regions. In front of 10,000 spectators in the Veltins Arena, Terodde (64th) and Malick Thiaw (73rd) ensured the hard-fought victory and the fifth game in a row without defeat on Saturday. On the other hand, the downward trend in guests continues. The interim lead by Andreas Albers (32nd) couldn’t change that.

Unlike the clear 1: 4 in the first leg, FC Schalke put up much more resistance this time. However, the reward for a respectable initial phase was not forthcoming. So Thomas Ouwejan only hit the aluminum in the 14th. But the Regensburgers got into the game better and better and struck ice cold at a long-range shot from Albers that was worth seeing. Just as they were preparing to make it 2-0 in the second half, Terodde scored the equalizer, which was flattering at the time. Thiaw, who came on a few seconds earlier, made Schalke’s luck perfect.

In the relegation battle: Sandhausen celebrates their first home win of the season against Aue

In the relegation battle of the 2nd Bundesliga, SV Sandhausen set an exclamation mark and clinched their first home win of the season. The Baden-Württembergers beat their direct pursuer FC Erzgebirge Aue 2-0 (1-0) on Saturday and are thus at least temporarily in the 15th place in the table. Fortuna Dusseldorf equal on points. Cebio Soukou (44th penalty) and Christian Kinsombi (69th) scored the goals.
