Dubbing voice Thomas Danneberg has died

He lent his voice to film greats such as Arnold Schwarzenegger, Sylvester Stallone and John Travolta. Now the German voice actor Thomas Danneberg is dead. He died on September 30th at the age of 81.

His colleague Charles Rettinghaus shared the news in an Instagram post. The voice actor was referring to Danneberg’s wife Leni. Her husband died in their property on Berlin’s Wannsee “as a result of a stroke,” his partner also announced to the “Bild” newspaper.

Rettinghaus describes his friend and colleague as “one of the greatest German dubbing voices in our country” who “breathed such great life” into the actors in the German film version. He was always a legend for him, said the voice actor, who is, among other things, the German voice of Jamie Foxx, in his video.

At the end of his contribution, Rettinghaus addressed film distributors and broadcasters: “Stop trying to imitate him, stop trying to find someone who maybe sounds exactly like him or maybe even use AI. Have respect for the man Thomas Danneberg, for the legend Thomas Danneberg and for this unique voice Thomas Danneberg.” Instead, they should look for voices that stand out and make it clear “that this legend no longer speaks,” said Rettinghaus in his farewell clip.
