A 38-year-old from Eindhoven, who drank a motorcyclist last July and then fled, gets a 240-hour work sentence. The court in Den Bosch decided that on Friday. The motorcyclist was left seriously injured. The punishment is much lower than the three -month prison and three years of driving denomination demanded by the Public Prosecution Service (OM).
The court in Den Bosch holds it in the ruling ‘very careless and inattentive driving’. The man received a 240 -hour work sentence for this.
According to the ruling, he also lost his driver’s license for two months. But because the driver’s license had been taken for two months, the man can immediately crawl back behind the wheel. If he will again show dangerous driving behavior in the next two years or in a different way, he will lose his driver’s license for 22 months.
‘Reaction morning seriously affected’
The Eindhoven resident rode the Grasdreef on July 26 last year, in the Eindhoven district of Meerhoven. According to research, he rode that evening at a speed of approximately 50 kilometers per hour towards the intersection with the grass linen and the grass steppe.
It has also been established that he had drunk way too much – almost five times as much as allowed – and that he drove through red. “His responsiveness was seriously affected in such a way that he was apparently no longer able to drive a car,” the court says.
As he approached the intersection, the traffic light was already on red for 73 seconds. A collision with a motorcyclist followed, who had the green light and turned left. Due to the collision, the engine was dragged tens of meters.
Serious injury
It was initially reported that the victim had contracted “only” fractures. His injuries turned out to be much more serious: a broken ankle, a concussion, several bruises and a collarbone that was irreparably disrupted.
The motorcyclist also sustained a deep wound on a single that was only more or less cured at the end of last year. Because of the accident, he was unable to work for about four months.
The damage to the car and the engine was great:
The victim was left helplessly after the collision. The motorist did not call 112 and fled into the neighborhood. A little later he was arrested with a family member in the neighborhood.
It is not known why he did not care about the motorcyclist. During the court case, two weeks ago, the Eindhovenaar admitted that he had caused the accident heavily under the influence. He also said he tried to get in touch with the victim, but that this was not possible due to privacy legislation.
To want a 3 -year -old riding ban
If it had been up to the OM, the Eindhoven residents would not have been allowed to control vehicles for three years. The court found that too much: the man needs the driver’s license for his work and threatened to lose his job if his driver’s license would be taken away for such a long period. The Eindhoven resident had a blank criminal record until this collision.
