Shane Hawkins, the 18-year-old son of the deceased Foo fighter-drummer Taylor Hawkinsappeared on Thursday at a drum clinic in Newquay, England. There he told the audience that his father’s favorite song from the Foo Fighters, which he liked to play at concerts, was not “Aurora”, contrary to the popular opinion. But “low” from the album One by One from 2002.

“People say that ‘Aurora’ was his favorite song,” said Shane Hawkins. “This is a lie. Dave [Grohl] never let him play. Dave let him play with them. But it is damn difficult to play the song together. And Dave probably thought: ‘Fuck it!’ I don’t know it. At least that’s my opinion. I would also do that if I were a guitarist. The song is called ‘Low’. The foos played “low” 125 times, most recently at the tribute concert for Taylor Hawkins in September 2022 in Los Angeles. The last time they played it with Hawkins on August 26, 2018 in the parking lot of the Hollywood Palladium when they presented themselves as Holy Shits as part of a free pop-up show. “Aurora” has now been played 284 times. The last performance with Taylor Hawkins took place on March 15, 2022 in the Foro Sol in Mexico City. The drummer died only 10 days later.
Future of the Foo Fighters remains uncertain
Taylor Hawkins was originally replaced by the experienced drummer Josh Freese. But last month the paths of the two separated without explanation. “In my 40 years as a professional drummer I have never been thrown out of a band”, wrote Freese on Instagram,. “So I’m not angry. But just a bit shocked and disappointed. But as most of you know, I always worked freelancers. And I switched between bands back and forth. So I’m fine.”
The foos have not yet announced who will replace Freese if they set off for a series of concerts in Indonesia, Singapore and Japan in October. Rumors say that Shane Hawkins is under discussion for the job. But so far there have been no specific indications.

However, Shane Hawkins has already taken over the role of his father in his long -standing side project Chevy Metal. A new incarnation of the band with Shane Hawkins starts a short tour on July 19 in Denver, Colorado. This ends on August 31st in Agoura Hills, California. He has enough time to prepare for the FOO tour. But we will probably only know who will actually get the job when you step on stage in Jakarta on October 2.
