Several drones were spotted above Volkel air base on Friday evening. The Ministry of Defense reported this on Saturday. Royal Netherlands Air Force personnel deployed weapons from the ground to shoot down the drones. The drones left and were not found.
The drones were spotted above the air base by guards on Friday evening between seven and nine o’clock. They immediately took action. For security reasons, Defense does not want to say how they observed the devices and what measures were used.
After the report, the Royal Military Police and the police were informed. They are conducting further research. It is not clear why the drones flew above and around the air base.
For safety reasons, drones are prohibited over airports and military bases.
