All the steps to follow to obtain, from private individuals or with a driving school, the license that allows you to drive mopeds and minicars
It is also known as a driving license and for many children it is one of the first steps towards independence. The AM license allows you to drive light mopeds and quadricycles, with certain characteristics, come on 14 years old of age on Italian territory and from 16 years in the EU. As with other licenses, to obtain it you must pass a theoretical and a practical exam. It is difficult to establish exactly the costs and the necessary times, which vary greatly based on the city of residence or the method chosen. As with the A and B licence, in fact, you can rely on a driving school or follow a private path by carrying out the administrative procedures yourself. Here is a practical guide to AM license limitations, costs and exams.
What can I drive
—
Light mopeds and quadricycles approved for AM licenses can never exceed 45 km/h speed. The maximum power allowed for two- and three-wheeled mopeds is 4 kWwhile the displacement must not exceed 50 cc. Minicars and quads, therefore four-wheeled vehicles, can have a manual or automatic transmission and must not weigh more than 425 kg in running order. The power remains fixed at 4 kW for quads (with an open cockpit) and rises up to a maximum of 6 kW for quadricycles with a closed cockpit such as minicars. The displacement remains unchanged for vehicles with controlled ignition, while for those with spontaneous ignition the limit is 500 cc. Carrying a passenger is permitted only in approved vehicles and only if the driver has more than 16 years.
The practices
—
To access the AM license it is necessary to undergo a psychophysical suitability examination. Once you have obtained the medical certificate, you must submit the application form to the DMV TT 2112also available online on the motorist portal, together with the valid identity document and the tax code. Regarding costs, you must present the receipt of payment of the fee N067-Rights of 26.40 euros and the tariff N019-Stamps of 16 euros for the theory exam. The latter must then be presented again to book the practical exam. If you choose to contact one driving schoolthese practices are carried out directly by the secretariat. Therefore, there is no need to go to the DMV, but usually you need to pay a higher registration fee.
The theory exam
—
The theory exam can be carried out within six months of submitting the application to obtain the driving licence. It is computerized and consists of 30 affirmations relating to the Highway Code and road safety. The candidate will have available 25 minutes to determine whether statements are true or false and may make a maximum of three errors. To prepare, you can use the manuals provided by driving schools or which can be purchased online and in bookstores. It is also important to practice the quizzes so as to familiarize yourself with the structure of the test within the time available on the day of the exam. The exam simulations are available both from mobile devices, with specific applications, and on the web. The text of Traffic Lawshowever, is available for free on the Aci website. In case of failure in the theory exam, the candidate will be able to repeat the test once within six months of the initial application.
Practice
—
The pink sheet is obtained after passing the theory exam, it is valid for 12 months and allows you to practice on the road. For approved two-seater vehicles, you must be accompanied by a qualified instructor or a driver who has the license for more than 10 years and under 65 years of age for the duration of driving. The average cost of a 30-minute guide with instructor is between 20 and 40 euros. Driving schools usually offer driving packages that also include administrative procedures and go from 200 to 500 euros in total.
The practical exam
—
At least one month after passing the theoretical exam, the candidate will be able to register for the practical test, for which he will also have to bring a document and the original pink sheet. The candidates minors must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian. The exam lasts 25 minutes and takes place in two phases. The first requires the execution of some maneuvers such as the slalom, the figure eight, passage in a narrow corridor and braking. The second part consists of driving on the road. THE private individuals they will be able to take the exam on a vehicle they own or belong to third parties who authorize its use, while those who access the exam via a driving school will necessarily have to take the test with their vehicles. Once the AM license has been obtained, the driver will be free to drive alone, but always with the limitations and rules established by the Highway Code, under penalty of administrative sanctions and, in the most serious cases, suspension or withdrawal of the license.
