Dries Roelvink thinks it is unacceptable that Beau van Erven Dorens attended a Gaza protest in Amsterdam at the beginning of the month. “It is not wise in his position,” said the folk singer.

A Red Line protest was held for the third time at the beginning of the month against the cabinet’s Israel position. According to the organization, at least 250,000 people were present to draw attention to Gaza. One of those present was RTL 4 presenter Beau van Erven Dorens, who posted a photo of it on his Instagram.

Shame

TV critic Victor Vlam was very critical of this. “Beau was also there and I honestly don’t think that is possible,” he said at the table at De Oranjezondag. “If you present a neutral, journalistic talk show — that’s what they pretend to be at RTL Tonight — then I think it would be very strange if you went to such a demonstration.”

The reason for this is clear, according to Victor. “Because you also have to be able to interview pro-Israel people there in your talk show. That’s just more difficult when you go there.”

Dries critical

Dries Roelvink will be part of it Story-prominent panel also asked for his opinion and agrees with Beau. “It’s brave of Beau, but in his position I don’t think it’s wise,” he says succinctly.

And singer Ronnie Tober also agrees: “When I once came to the Netherlands from America, I learned that you should never talk about three subjects: politics, religion and sex. I stuck to that.”

Stay neutral

This is just a blunder on Beau’s part, says Ronnie. “As a presenter, I would always remain neutral. Also because of the guests who appear in the program. They do not need to know your opinion.”

Former politician Henk Krol is standing in the breach for the talk show host. “In Beau’s case, it says nothing about his role at RTL Tonight. As the presenter of the talk show, he must be neutral, but outside of that he can express his opinion.”
