Drentse Carnation Prize to the Historical Klazienaveen Foundation

The Historical Klazienaveen Foundation has won this year’s Drentse Carnation Prize. The jury praises the foundation for bringing local history to life. An amount of 5,000 euros is attached to the prize of the Prince Bernhard Cultuurfonds.

The Drenthe Carnation Prize was presented this afternoon by King’s Commissioner Jetta Klijnsma in Museum De Buitenplaats in Eelde. The other nominees were Sculpture Garden De Havixhorst and The Bake Shop.

Stichting Historisch Klazienaveen has been active since 2016 and organizes historical walks, boat trips and events. “We are busy realizing the tram monument and that costs a lot of money. So that 5,000 euros is fantastic,” says Jans Jagt of Stichting Historisch Klazienaveen. “The unveiling of the monument is planned to be in 2024.”

According to the jury, Stichting Historisch Klazienaveen can ‘be an inspiring example for other associations and foundations in Drenthe’. “They show that it is possible to bring the history of one’s own place to life in an easily accessible and infectious way.”

“Precisely by actively collaborating with other parties in order to achieve more. They are an important ambassador for the village and therefore for the local history of Drenthe. Given the many plans of the foundation, the jury can imagine that the The price of 5,000 euros is most useful here,” said the jury.

The Green Carnation Award went to the Florakartering Drenthe Foundation. “Because of the fundamental contribution to our knowledge of nature”, the jury reasons. IVN department Hoogeveen and the Guild of Volunteer Molenaars Drenthe were also nominated.

For the first time, the winner of the Green Carnation Prize also received a cash prize of 5,000 euros. Previously it was 3,000 euros.
