Writer Rieks Sieering, honorary member of the Huus van de Taol and former board member, died last night. That is what the taol will let you know.

Rieks Siebering, born in Nieuw-Balinge in 1941, has been of great significance for the Drenthe book in the course of quite a few years and was a writer who brought new elements to Drenthe literature. In 2018, a collection of collection came from him, Drain the Rikken of Mien Laand with me.

Sieering has worked for forty years as a teacher in special education. Reading and interest in literature have been taught him from an early age by his father, who was also in education. Rutger Kopland, Cees Buddingh, Hugo Claus and Lucebert were his favorites.

He only came into contact with Drenthe literature in the 1980s, when he had health problems and was admitted to the hospital. Someone told him that he had to write down his deepest feelings in the language in which he also dreamed. He did that through his VARA-Café, a cultural-political talk show, through his board position at the Drenthe book and later the house of the Taol, as presenter/organizer of Language An Taofel in Veeningen and as an employee of the Taolkranten. He was also chairman of the RTV Drenthe program council and municipal councilor for the PvdA in Hoogeveen.

For his great merits for the Drenthe language, Rieks was the first to receive the honorary title of the house of the Taol in 2008.

Rieks Sieering has turned 83 years old.
