Drenthe Toen podcast: A day trip to Zweeloo with Van Gogh, part two

Bert Finke: “Vincent walks into the guest house of Jan and Lammechien Mensingh and asks if they know if Liebermann is present. The answer is disappointing: the artists are usually here in the spring and summer months,” he says. Now it is too cold and too dark.

“Vincent is the only artist in Zweeloo at that time. It is now light, so he can now see the village much better,” Finke continues. “Next to Mensingh is the pale that Liebermann captured, he sees the orchard and he sees several beautiful farms and makes a choice. A beautiful drawing has been handed down with a small farm, with half-timbered windows on it, and very thin small trees in front of it.”
