Educational institutions in Drenthe are experiencing internet problems this week due to several DDoS attacks. The schools are connected to the affected SURF computer network.
At DCTerra, among others, the internet works far from optimally. A spokesperson speaks of ‘no or slow internet connection’. The problems have not yet led to the postponement of exams at DCTerra. “But at other vocational schools, exams have already been postponed or not given digitally.”
At NHL Stenden, pupils and students also had to deal with a poor connection. No problems have been reported yet today, a spokesperson said when asked. “But we are vigilant and preparing.”
Universities, colleges, secondary vocational education, academic hospitals and research institutes throughout the country are being hit by a new DDoS attack. The institutions have been experiencing problems since 8:20 am this morning. Around noon, Surf reported that the digital attack has stopped and connecting is possible again.
SURF was also the target of a DDoS attack on Wednesday and Thursday. On Wednesday, institutions in the south of the country were mainly affected. Thursday’s attack also had consequences for investigators in the rest of the country. During the attacks, systems are bombarded with so much traffic that they collapse under the pressure and become inaccessible.
