Dreaming about a new Roden swimming pool: ‘Why not a movable roof?’

Swimming pool De Hullen in Roden is in dire need of replacement. It is not yet dangerous, but something needs to be done about the concrete rot, just like the high energy bill. “If you do nothing, Roden will no longer have a swimming pool in about five years. That would be a loss for such a village,” says manager Albert Douwsma.

The swimming pool in Roden uses 160,000 cubic meters of gas every year. And that, especially in a time of sky-high energy costs, is a thorn in the side of the municipality of Noordenveld. “Doing nothing is not an option,” concludes Alderman Alex Wekema. The municipality is therefore allocating 25,000 euros for a study into the possibilities at De Hullen.

Douwsma thinks that making a swimming pool more sustainable does not have to be such a problem. “At the moment there is no investment in this, because we are waiting for new plans for this pool. You will soon have to be completely gas-free and that is also possible. The technology is ready for you to control with heat pumps.”
