Robert Farken wanted to do better than at the Olympic Games in Paris. But the German medium-range star fell again.
At the Olympic Games in Paris last summer, the German 1,500-meter runner Robert Farken fell in the lead. Due to a jury decision, he was still allowed to start in the final at the time, but did not matter in the fight for the medals. Now the 27-year-old’s fall drama was repeated at the European Halle Championship in Apeldoorn.
The medium -range runner came back on Friday and therefore did not reach the finish line in the victory of the Norwegian Jakob Inbrigtsen. The hope of precious metal burst. In conversation with the German Athletics Association (DLV) Farken said: “I was a tick too far back when Jakob came. I actually wanted to be in four position. When he came, I just had to go more aggressively. I just spoke to the French briefly: We had the same thought.”
Then Farken carried out with a view of the six-time European champion and double Olympic champion: “You can simply see what a panic goes through the field when Jakob moves. It’s just shit.”
Then he continued: “My shin hurts, that shouldn’t hurt yet because adrenaline is there. It was just a fitness race. I think I would have been fit enough to be at least fourth and confirm my registration performance.”
