In Seraing near Liège, a 5-year-old boy accidentally shot his 2.5-year-old sister in the head on Friday morning. The girl would fight for her life.

Several family members have already been questioned by authorities, but there is no indication of murder. “At first glance, it seems to be an accident,” said Liège prosecutor Damien Leboutte.

Leboutte has told the RTBF that the weapon belonged to the father of the family and that he had it “completely legally” in his possession. The man is a sports shooter.

The father bought the firearm last year in a gun shop in Liège. It was usually kept in a sealed box. The judicial investigation must now show how it ended up in the hands of the five-year-old boy. The latter would be questioned next week.

Leboutte told ‘La Dernière Heure’ that the children were at friends’ homes with their parents at the time of the incident. Suddenly, the parents heard a gunshot in an adjacent room. When they entered, they found the little girl on the floor with a wound to the head. Their son held a gun in his hand. The girl was immediately taken to hospital.
