Humberto Tan is literally empty-handed now that RTL Tonight has failed and he is being ruthlessly replaced by the younger generation. What will he do now? “It’s going to be quiet on television for a while.”
For years, Humberto Tan was the face of the late evening of RTL 4. He was very successful with this in the early years of RTL Late Night, but the success started to turn around around his alleged extramarital affair. Suddenly the people at home no longer had any interest in ‘family man’ Humberto and they completely abandoned him.
Over and out
Unfortunately, Humberto was not a success as host of RTL Tonight and now the 60-year-old presenter is being pushed aside to make way for the new generation. 37-year-old Renze Klamer takes over and even when he is on holiday, Humberto is no longer used. 35-year-old Welmoed Sijtsma was hired for this.
One thing is certain: they no longer have such rock-solid confidence in Humberto at RTL. In fact, it actually seems to be a bit over and done with. “I’m going to do a lot, but on television I’m going to take it a bit easier, but I also still have my podcast with Michiel Vos,” he says in Show news.
Hobby project
Every celebrity has a podcast these days. That’s just a hobby project, right? “We are at 100,000 streams per month, so that is going very well. I also have a number of projects running, I also travel a lot, so I won’t get bored.”
What will he do for RTL now? “There are constant conversations, so I don’t know yet what will happen. I’ll have to wait and see. That’s a question for you and for me too. I really don’t know yet. I’ll let it all go for a while.”
Very curious
TV authority Tina Nijkamp thinks it sounds worrying. “I am very curious if and when he will return with a program on RTL 4, but I don’t think anything is in the works for the time being,” she says in her podcast. “There is nothing in the short-term schedule, so if he is going to do something, a team has to be put together.”
“And then we might see him again on television in the new year, but I actually think we won’t see him again this year. I think that’s a shame, because I thought Humberto and Beau were nice talk show presenters, but anyway, they have now chosen Renze and Welmoed.”
