Dozens of road users received a fine on Friday evening, because they rode over a closed lane after an accident on Randweg N2 near Eindhoven. A car ended up on its side in the accident.
The motorists are waiting for a print from the police in a long line, can be seen on images that Rijkswaterstaat shares.
The accident happened at the place where the lanes of the N2 and A2 come together from Tilburg and Best. It is not known whether someone was injured. The N2 was closed for a while in the direction of Eindhoven, just past the Ekkersweijer junction.
‘#Nietvoornix’
Those who have a lacquer on a red cross above the road risks a fine of 250 euros. Ignoring a red cross falls under criminal law. This means that the public prosecutor determines how high the fine actually becomes.
Since 2019, the police, ANWB, ambulance services, Bergers, Wegwerken and Rijkswaterstaat have been paying attention to the dangers of ignoring a red cross with the ‘#Nietvoornix’ campaign.
The slogan was devised, because in that year the number of drivers who did not stop at such a cross increased enormously. In that first year, ten thousand fines were handed out to drivers who ignored a red cross.
